Murgitroyd Graduate Internship Programme

BACKGROUND

The Murgitroyd Graduate Internship Programme will provide recent University graduates with an exciting opportunity to gain valuable business experience and skills. The full time, 12 month internship programme will provide a challenging and rewarding insight into day to day life in the corporate world.  The internship will have a practical focus and has been designed to provide a significant amount of interaction with not only the professionals at Murgitroyd & Company, but also our clients. Over the course of the internship, you will work alongside a number of our core business teams, this allowing you to gain meaningful business experience and associated skills which will provide a solid platform for future career growth and development.

INTERNSHIP STRUCTURE

As an intern, you will complete a number of modules during the 12 month internship programme. These modules will be based in different departments of the business and will allow you to gain insight and experience into the different functions of the business. The specific modules will vary depending on the location of your internship and the departments of the business which operate out of that office location. Modules will include the following areas: Patent protection, Trade Mark protection, Intellectual Property (“IP”) administrative support and Business Development and Marketing.

You will be assigned a specific role within each department in which you are based. You will work alongside and in conjunction with our professional and support staff, assisting them with their day-to-day responsibilities. So that you have the opportunity to make a difference, you will be assigned tasks specific to you, these tasks allowing you to play your part in the departmental team. During your time within each department, you will be involved in departmental projects and team meetings.

In addition to the on-going modular structure of the internship, each intern will be tasked with a project which will run for the duration of the internship. This project will be based on a subject which will be agreed with you in advance and will focus on the service we deliver or broader relevant issues in the field of IP. The project element of the internship will provide you with time to research your allocated subject and at the end of the 12 month internship, you will be expected to produce a report of your findings and to present these to our Directors.

In order to ensure that your time with us is as meaningful as possible, you will be assigned a mentor who will provide you with all the support and advice you require to get the most out of your time with us.

Our internship programme would particularly suit individuals who have the following skill sets and abilities:
- Adaptability and flexibility.  The modular nature of the internship programme means you will be moving around departments, you will constantly be required to meet the challenge of learning and applying new skills or adapting them to different circumstances.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and mange time effectively.
- The ability to work under pressure, whilst maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with staff at all levels of the organisation.
- The ability to work well within, and contribute to, a team environment.
- The ability to engage confidently with clients
- A drive to deliver the highest levels of client service.
