Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate social responsibility can be met in varied ways while continuing to meet investor demands for earnings growth and sustainable expansion.  In short, having a robust moral compass is not impossible in a demanding global economy.

Investing in our local economies
With our network of offices across Europe, and in the United States, our local community is, in fact, many local communities.  As determined by our staff charities committee we make contributions to projects "local" to all our offices.  For example, In September 2012, many of our staff, supported by Murgitroyd & Company, are participating in the Great Scottish Run to raise funds for local charity Revive MS Support (see http://www.revivemssupport.org.uk/aboutus.html).

Supporting aid programs further afield
As a company, we are committed to supporting Nazareth House in Cape Town, South Africa, where we have assisted with the funding of new accommodation and occupational therapy support for abandoned, neglected, disabled and orphaned children.  Wherever possible, Nazareth House attempts to reunite such disadvantaged children with their families, or to place them in foster care with the hope of eventual adoption. Click here to visit our Nazareth House page.

Ethical employment policies
Corporate social responsibility starts at home and we aim to be an equal opportunities employer with a commitment to help all our people develop their potential to the fullest extent possible.  In relation to disabled people or minority groups, we have a policy of giving full and fair consideration to all applicants for all vacancies for which they are suitably qualified.  Any of our people who become disabled during their working life will be retained in employment wherever possible and will be given help with any necessary rehabilitation or training.

We recognise that a key element in our success is the quality and commitment of our people.  We place very considerable importance on their contributions and our policy is to communicate to everyone in the organisation relevant information about our clients and our business using our email system and face-to-face briefings.  Recruitment and training is aimed at the development of each individual to their fullest potential and the whole team being supportive of others in providing service to our clients.

Green policies
We recognise the importance of environmental responsibility.  By its nature our activities have a minimal effect on the environment but where they do we aim to act responsibly and are aware of our obligations at all times.  Specific examples of this include actively managed and measured recycling of paper, participation in country-specific programmes designed to encourage cycling to work, and investment in virtual meeting technology reducing the need for inter-office travel and negating the creation of associated carbon footprints.
